On Friday September 29, Saturday 30 and Sunday October 1, 2017, the Arab World Institute in Paris celebrates its 30th anniversary and invites you to a giant party! For the first time, the mashrabiyas will be light up for a sound and light show that will take your breath away and followed by a great electro party scheduled on Friday September 29. Be ready to get your mind blown away.

The Arab World Institute (AWI) celebrates its 30th anniversary by organizing a free weekend from Friday September 20 to Sunday October 1, 2017. All weekend long, the cultural institution presided by Jack Lang will open its doors for free.

For 30 years, this museum is a door to the Orient and has become one of the best places to better understand the Arab language and culture thanks to educational and topical meetings.

If we love its collections and its temporary exhibitions, including the awaited one called “Oriental Christians”, the museum offers restaurants, a library, movie screenings, concerts and even language courses!

AWI’s 30th anniversary celebration program:

  • Sound and light show, Friday September 29, evening
For the first time, the legendary mashrabiyas of the AWI – created by Jean Nouvel – will come back to life thanks to Romain Pissenem (light) and the Arabic Sound System team (electro music from the Arab world). During the show, the façade of the institute will become a giant screen with spectacular visual effects designed to persist. From now one, every time the sun goes down, the façade will be lighted up!

  • Guided tours of AWI’s backstage
    Guided tours of AWI’s hidden rooms are scheduled on September 30, 2017 at 8 p.m., 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. (2h)

  • Guided tours of the assembly

  • Guided tours of the exhibition “Oriental Christians”

  • Guided tours of the museum

  • Theatre performance, October 1, 2017 at 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Chronicle of a city we’ve never known by Wael Kadour. As part of the “L’Atelier. Les littératures arabes en mouvement” (The Workshop. Moving Arabic litteratures)

  • Specialties tastings

If you’ve never been there, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
