Genius sculptor, Agustín Cárdenas is no less talented when it comes to drawing or painting. To pay tribute to his many talents, the Maison de l'Amérique latine devotes an exhibition to the Cuban artist from September 1 to December 19, 2020. Called Mon ombre après minuit, it gathers about a hundred works of art. Come and enjoy Agustín Cárdenas’ sensual and passionate universe without giving any second thought: the exhibition is free of charge!

Gouache, painting, sculpting, drawing, Agustín Cárdenas expressed his art on every support he could reach. The exhibition of the Maison de l’Amérique Latine focuses on a collection of drawings and paintings mostly made in Paris after 1955. Like in his sculptures, we find in his drawings Agustín Cárdenas’ obsession for shapes. Works displayed show the sensual and flamboyant imaginary, a poetic vision of the world sometimes dramatic, sometimes tinted with humor.

These drawings remain in the artist’s preferred themes with infinite variations around women, couple, mother, and child, love, and nature. The Cuban artist claim his art to be “opened up”, that is to say free of meaning. He loves and practices drawing for what it is, an endless line like thoughts.

In September, open up your mind and let yourselves be guided by shapes and feelings conveyed by Agustín Cárdenas’ works.
