Paris ring road: carpooling lanes now subject to checks and penalties

Carpool lanes are now open on the Paris ring road: checks are in place to ensure that these reserved lanes are used properly.

Paris: Partial closure of the ring road this Thursday by decision of the Prefecture of Police

The inner ring road is partially closed this Thursday, April 17, 2025, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., at Porte de Champerret and Porte de Clichy, by decision of the Paris Police Prefecture. This temporary measure is in response to the fire that destroyed the Syctom sorting center in the 17th arrondissement, and requires a secure survey mission.

Before it became a huge thoroughfare around the capital for motorists, the Paris ring road had a less than glorious past. At the edge of the city, between Paris and the suburbs, this space was long nicknamed the Zone, the only place where the poorest could find housing.
