World Health Organization envoy David Nabarro fears third epidemic wave in Europe in early 2021 if European governments make the same managing “mistakes” as during the second wave.

This Sunday November 22, interviewed by a Swiss daily, World Health Organization envoy David Nabarro predicted a third epidemic wave in early 2021 in Europe if the governments make the same “mistakes” as noticed during the managing of the ongoing second Covid wave.

As a matter of fact, the British doctor thinks the different European governments “missed building up the necessary infrastructure during the summer months, after they brought the first wave under the control. Now we have the second wave. If they don’t build the necessary infrastructure, we’ll have a third wave early next year”.

He insists on the necessity to implement a new confirmed-case tracking system on a local basis. “People must be watched over closely to know who is infected” David Nabarro said, including checking people isolated observe self-isolation. This is a possibility actually currently studied by France’s government.

Still according to WHO envoy, restrictions have been implemented better and longer in Asian countries. “People are fully engaged, they take on behaviors that make it difficult for the virus. They keep their distance, wear masks, isolate when they’re sick, wash hands and surfaces. They protect the most endangered groups.”

He concludes: “You must wait until case numbers are low and stay low. Europe’s reaction was incomplete”.
