Why do some animals scare us? For Halloween 2026, the Ménagerie du Jardin des Plantes invites families to meet these residents in a new light with Even Not Scared!. The activities run during the All Saints’ Day holidays, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and are open to kids from 6 years old.
In The Lair of Phobia, snakes, spiders, rats and bats provide material to observe and understand. The animation explores the reactions these creatures can provoke, aiming to move beyond their unsettling reputation. This Halloween program unfolds as a scientific exploration of animals.
Another activity delves into the social structure of naked mole-rats. Their distinctive appearance grabs attention, but the facilitators also explain what makes these animals unique and how they stay healthy. The outing invites children to ask questions and discover what lies beyond first impressions.
On Tuesday 27 and Thursday 29 October, biologist Anthony Herrel will host two talks focused on snakes. A CNRS research director, he studies in particular how they move and what they eat. His talks explain why these reptiles deserve to be better understood.
Opened in 1794, the Ménagerie is one of the oldest zoos in the world. The activities are included in the admission ticket: €13 full price, €10 reduced, and €40 for the family pass.
