For the Heritage Days, we're heading to the French Museum of Photography, which will host guided tours and workshops on September 16 and 17, 2023. While photography is now everywhere and accessible to all, this has not always been the case, and the techniques used to capture images have evolved considerably over time. Discover the history and mechanics of photography at the French Museum of Photography in Essonne, which is opening its doors free of charge for the occasion.
Founded in 1960 at the initiative of two photography enthusiasts, Jean and André Fage, a museum was established as a community-led institution. Over more than three decades, they collected a diverse range of images and objects, chronicling the history and evolution of photography through the years. Today, the museum houses a total of 25,000 artifacts and one million photographs, making it one of the most extensive collections worldwide.
Please note that since 2003, this museum has been officially recognized as a "Museum of France" by the Essonne Departmental Council. Regarding the Heritage Days, keep in mind that while all tours and activities offered this weekend are free, most require reservations! Reserve your spot now by calling 01 69 35 16 50 or emailing musee.photo91@cd-essonne.fr.
