For this new and 42nd edition of the Journées du Patrimoine, why not take the opportunity to push open the doors of theHôtel du Nord? A mythical address on the Quai de Jemmapes in Paris's 10th arrondissement, this bar and restaurant is best known for having been immortalized in Marcel Carné's 1938 film of the same name.
Since then, theHôtel du Nord - whose façade has been listed as a Parisian historic monument - has continued to fascinate film buffs and curious visitors alike. Come and discover the incredible history of theHôtel du Nord during guided tours offered exclusively for the Journées du Patrimoine.
L'Hôtel du Nord is the legendary Right Bank brasserie created in 1913 and immortalized in Marcel Carné's film of the same name (1938), based on the novel by writer Eugène Dabit (1929).
Thanks to a petition led by actor Jean Claude Brialy, Parisians in love with their city, the cinema and the bistro, the Hôtel du Nord was saved from total destruction in 1995, and its facade classified as a Parisian historic monument.
Since then, the restaurant has been welcoming film and book connoisseurs, tourists and locals alike, with its 1920s ambiance and decor, down to the smallest detail. The new owners of the Hôtel du Nord, passionate about the history of this magical place, are offering a free guided tour on the occasion of the European Heritage Days.
