Need a culture break (and a royal one)? The Journées Européennes du Patrimoine return on 19 and 20 September 2026 with their share of surprises and discoveries. The idea? Step off the beaten path and dive into the hidden (or not) treasures of European heritage.

Among the lesser-known places not to miss, head to the Yvelines (78) to the Hôtel de Noailles, nestled in the charming town of Saint-Germain-en-Laye. This masterpiece by Jules Hardouin-Mansart, Louis XIV’s star architect, erected between 1679 and 1682 for Marshal Anne-Jules de Noailles, unveils its 18th‑century woodwork, its listed gardens, and even 3D reconstructions for an unprecedented historical immersion. A beacon of the Enlightenment, it welcomed Mozart, Bach and the era’s intellectual elite. Even after losing a central wing during the通cut of Rue d’Alsace in 1836, the hôtel preserves its north and south pavilions, the duchess’s apartment, its listed salons, stables and corner pavilions. All set within an old aristocratic estate whose avenues, now streets, still murmur the elegance of yesteryear.
