Every year, the European Heritage Days help us kick off the cultural season with an unmissable great deal: discovering France’s finest treasures. This year, the event takes place over the weekend of 19 and 20 September 2026. In Paris and Île-de-France, many museums, historic landmarks, châteaux and other cultural venues open their doors to you for free, with a host of activities, guided tours and exhibitions to enjoy.
With the family, with friends, as a couple or on your own, this flagship cultural event is a must. And for good reason: there’s something for everyone! In 2026, the spotlight is on an exciting theme: “Photography Heritage ” and “Heritage in Peril: Reviving, Resisting, Reimagining ”.
In 2026, several new features are on the program, while the must-sees are still there. You can visit iconic places such as the Élysée Palace, government ministries, the Institut de France, and even go behind the scenes at Galeries Lafayette, which are often inaccessible outside these days.
This year, visitors are invited to explore heritage from every angle and in all its richness. History buffs can look forward to in-depth guided tours of historic monuments, while those curious about contemporary architecture will be delighted to discover recent buildings that contribute to the region’s vitality.
The 2026 program promises to be just as festive, with participatory workshops, art exhibitions and free outdoor concerts. You can also sign up for urban walks to discover Paris’s hidden neighborhoods. Several routes are available through the Marais, Montmartre and Belleville, offering a chance to explore the history and stories behind these places steeped in memory.
