The house takes its name from Charles-François Daubigny, a 19th-century painter renowned for his landscapes. To track the landscapes as the river unfolds, Daubigny even uses a boat-studio, nicknamed Le Botin. This lets him sail the Oise and paint directly from the water. A fairly modern approach for the time, it reveals his ambition to capture nature as it presents itself.
His house in Auvers-sur-Oise is a home, a workshop and a gathering place. Daubigny welcomed family, friends and several artists there.
