Energy sobriety is likely to be the key turn of phrase this winter, between climate issues and energy prices. In Paris, are Christmas lights jeopardized as the event is to begin in three months?

Christmas is 100 days! But this year, celebrations are likely to be much sober than usual, in a difficult social and economic context. As a matter of fact, given the energy prices, shortage risks, French are required sacrifices when it comes to their consumption. Energy sobriety administrations and cities will have to comply with to give the example, and likely to impact the traditional lights of this magical December holiday.

Winter 2022 will be difficult for collectivities too as they are already thinking about how they can lower their consumption. The city of Paris has already announced the Eiffel Tower will be turned off earlier, but Christmas lights are only targeted, so are all public lights. Although they are not to disappear from the City of Lights, light strings and other decorations will be not as many and showy as usual. But, in smaller cities, Christmas could even go without lights in order to not be a burden on the energy bill.

Although nothing has been settled so far, lights may be turned off sooner, especially on the Avenue des Champs-Elysées. Furthermore, the usual cabins opening at this time of the year may not enjoy heating and likely to close early, you better be equipped, then. What about ice rinks? Energy-intensive, they could be replaced with other entertainments like in Libourne, Gironde. Lots of adjustments are to be expected to keep Christmas magic up, without blowing up the budget nor the planet!
