A tough week for Paris's public transport. After the temporary closure of three metro stations and one RER station on September 8, the RATP announces new disruptions in the metro on September 9 and 10, 2026.
For two consecutive days, this Wednesday and Thursday, access to the Champs-Elysées – Clémenceau station will be closed from 7 a.m. "From September 9 to September 10 inclusive, on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 07:00, access to the Champs-Élysées - Clemenceau station will be closed, trains will not stop," reads the RATP site.
It should be noted that the Champs-Élysées - Clemenceau station is served by Metro lines 1 and 13, two lines heavily used by daily commuters and occasional riders alike.
But what is this Parisian event that requires closing the Champs-Élysées - Clemenceau station for two days? On its site, the RATP cites "security measures requested by the Prefecture of Police," but offers little detail. By contrast, the Prefecture of Police has issued an order establishing a protection perimeter and "various police measures applicable" for the International Summit on Space. This major gathering is scheduled to take place this Wednesday, September 9 and Thursday, September 10, 2026 at the Grand Palais, conveniently accessible via the Champs-Élysées - Clemenceau station.
As noted by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, this summit will bring together a wide range of participants, including heads of state and government from around the world, as well as representatives of international and regional organizations, lawmakers, scientists, military personnel, astronauts and decision-makers from the private sector, civil society, local authorities and development banks. The objective? "Open a dialogue for all, in service of a space worthy of the challenges of our time".
During this summit, astronaut Thomas Pesquet and entrepreneur Hélène Huby will serve as the president's special envoys.
