The Musée de la Préfecture de Police is taking part in Nuit des Musées 2024, scheduled for Saturday May 18. This museum, designed in 1909 by Préfet Louis Lépine, brings together over four centuries of police history in 300m² of collections. While one gallery looks back at the notions of crime and punishment from the Ancien Régime to the abolition of the death penalty in 1981, another space presents the professions of the Préfecture de Police!
The Musée de la Préfecture de Police is an opportunity to relive some of France's most notorious cases through the stories of four centuries of bloody crimes, attacks and political assassinations; regicides, blood crimes, murders by poison, skulduggery or swindles... The museum portrays some of the world's most brutal criminals, who never cease to be the talk of the town, as evidenced by the life-like portrait of Cartouche in his prison!
Three women entered the police station to gain access to the museum with their identity cards. A fourth went in and out without giving her card. The next day, the museum manager arrived at the museum to find the lifeless body of one of the women in the forensics room, next to the seats, a 1900 browning pistol lying on one of the seats. On the floor, glasses and a broken heel.
Who is this young woman? What could have happened to her? Was it murder? But who and why? A suicide?
This investigation for children is based on learning how to identify victims and criminals, and on the history and development of forensic science.
As part of the "Police and sport: esprit de corps, culture du corps" exhibition, on show at the Musée de la Préfecture de Police from March 7 to September 22, 2024, come and discover and understand how the Paris police act to ensure that sporting events remain a festive occasion! During this activity, you'll discover the role of police officers in and around stadiums, in the fight against dangerous betting, but also against doping.
A former commander of the Paris Criminal Brigade will show you how a judicial investigation unfolds, using emblematic cases from the 1980s to the present day.
Come and find out how the role of sport has gradually become more important in our society, and how the police need to be involved in supervising sporting events to ensure the safety of all, as well as in controlling abuses such as sports betting and doping. This conference also shows how sport is a factor of cohesion and a vector of social integration.
In short, it's a great opportunity to find out more about this institution, which is involved in the lives of Parisians on a daily basis. Happy Nuit des Musées!
