Today, at Place des Vosges, the apartment once occupied by Victor Hugo from 1832 to 1848—then known as Place Royale—offers a glimpse into the writer’s entire life.
It was in this very apartment that Victor Hugo penned his play Ruy Blas, between July 8 and August 11, 1838.
Founded by Paul Meurice in 1902, who generously donated his collections to the City of Paris, the Victor Hugo House houses an impressive collection of drawings, paintings, photographs, and sculptures.
