The Fête de la Musique was born in 1982. Under the impetus of Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture, Maurice Fleuret and Christian Dupavillon, architect-scenographer and member of the Cabinet, the very first Fête de la Musique was launched in France on June 21, 1982. Since then, the event has gone from strength to strength, and has even been exported abroad.
