Every year, this popular and free event brings together a large number of musicians. Every year, this event is an opportunity to celebrate live music and discover numerous artists in the street, in parks and gardens, in churches and even in some museums. As you may have guessed, I'm talking about the Fête de la musique.
For the record, the first Fête de la musique was launched in 1982 on the initiative of the French Ministry of Culture. At the time, the aim was to study the cultural practices of the French. We discovered that five million people, including one young person in two, played a musical instrument. So Jack Lang, architect and scenographer Christian Dupavillon, a member of his Cabinet, and Maurice Fleuret came up with the idea of a major popular event to raise the profile of these musicians. The very first Fête de la Musique was launched on June 21, 1982, the symbolic day of the summer solstice.
Once again this year, there's plenty of good music on offer in Paris and elsewhere in the Paris region, including Mennecy. ThisEssonne town hosts a number of cultural and musical events throughout the year, including the famous Mennecy Metal Fest, well known to metalheads.
On Saturday, June 21, 2025, for the Fête de la Musique, Mennecy invites its residents to the Parc de Villeroy, between the two Orangeries, for an evening of pop, rock, metal and Rolling Stones covers.
