In 1982, the country organized its first Fête de la musique, conceived by Culture Minister Jack Lang, Maurice Fleuret, and Christian Dupavillon, an architect and stage designer who sits in the Cabinet. The aim? To launch a major, all-inclusive celebration that lets every musician take the stage and make a name for themselves for a single festive evening—a concept that, more than 40 years after its inception, remains influential and is envied across Europe.
