With its neoclassical architecture, the Palais Bourbon is, in a certain sense, in dialogue with its main courtyard. This courtyard is marked by a difference in level with the forecourt, and since 1990 has housed a granite sphere, designed by the artist Walter de Maria, evoking the Declaration of Human Rights. On the courtyard side, a portal, in the form of a triumphal arch, connects the side pavilions via a column gallery, making the link with the Palais Bourbon and its four-columned porch, topped by a pediment concealing the attic covering the hemicycle.
