France continues to be on cloud nine! After Olympic gold for Cassandre Beaugrand in triathlon and Léon Marchand 's double in swimming yesterday, France picked up another medal this Thursday, August 1, 2024, thanks to Titouan Castryck. The young kayaker won silver after a very fine race (88.42). It was the first French medal of the day.
And the public were delighted, rising to cheer their champion at the Vaires-sur-Marne pool. A site that the 19-year-old Breton knows well. It was here in the Seine-et-Marne region that Titouan Castryck won his first kayak slalom World Cup on October 7, 2023.
With this fine medal at the Paris Olympic Games, Titouan Castryck adds another victory to his already exceptional list of achievements for a 19-year-old athlete. The Saint-Malo-born kayaker also gives France its 27th medal, and its 11th in silver.
At the end of the race on the Vaires-sur-Marne pool, Titouan Castryck was beaten by Giovanni De Gennaro (88.22). The Italian was thus crowned Olympic champion with a gold medal. On the third step of the podium was Spain's Pau Echaniz (88.87).
France won its first gold medal in slalomcanoeing on July 29, thanks to Nicolas Gestin. The sport now boasts two medals, thanks to Titouan Castryck.
