Running for 50 years, the Grand Action is set rue des écoles in Paris 5th arrondissement, a lively movie theater between its 15 cine-clubs, screenings, meetings and events held all year around.

Created in 1970’s, it is in 2005 the Grand Action movie theater is purchased by its current owner making a young girl’s dream come true: owning her own movie theater. And the least we can say is this indie art house movie theater has been transformed into a very dynamic place. Over 200 events a year are held, in addition to weekly or monthly meeting. All this via the 15 cine-clubs working within the theater, making it one of the movie theaters owning the most cine-clubs in Paris.

Meetings are held in the two auditoriums the Grand Action enjoys, totalizing over 300 seats. In the first auditorium, a portrait of Henri Langlois – one of the founders of the Cinémathèque Française – stands at the back, on one of the walls. The venue was renovated to enjoy new seats, and especially the famous love seats, perfect for a romantic movie screening.

The second auditorium, called Henri Ginet, has a special feature. The curved screen gives a better immersion. And here is a fun fact: this is the only auditorium in Paris where there is a calibration table (process enabling to improve the picture’s colors). This special feature granted the Grand Action to screen all the French movies selected for the Cannes film festival 2019 for their auditorium viewing.

As for the program, the Grand Action plays exclusivities and Hollywood movies, as well as Italian features. Sessions are also planned for children on Wednesday afternoons, generally held with day camps. As for the décor, the Grand Action bet on unicity. Each part of a wall displays a character representing a movie story, like Bonnie & Clyde, for instance.

Set 400 meters from the venue, you can enjoy the iconic dishes of the famous La Tour d’Argent restaurant. As for the cultural part, the Arab World Institute is set 400 meters from there. And if you want to have fun with friends after the movie, meet at The Game, the Paris escape room venue with new concepts like escaping a crashing plane in 60 minutes or surviving an earthquake!
