In Soudain Seuls, in cinemas December 6, Gilles Lellouche and Mélanie Thierry play Ben and Laura, a couple who, after five years together, decide to set off on a round-the-world adventure by boat. But during a stopover on a wild island near Antarctica, the couple find themselves trapped after a storm engulfs their boat, leaving them to face nature alone.

Isolated from the rest of the world, with danger imminent and winter approaching, Ben and Laura must fight for their survival, a struggle that also tests the strength of their relationship. They must face the rigors of the climate, hunger and fear, while maintaining the hope of rescue. This struggle becomes the heart of the film's plot.

Trailer for Suddenly Alone:

Director Thomas Bidegain, best known for his screenplays and, in particular, his long-standing collaboration with Jacques Audiard, signs his second and most ambitious feature film here. While the narrative is tight (a rather contemplative film, with only two actors and virtually no music), the staging is the film's main interest. Shot entirely on location, with very few artifices, the two actors' epic is all the more realistic.

And if some of the dialogue is clumsy, the relationship between the two protagonists is equally touching. This is a couple on the brink of explosion, at once destroyed and forever united by the hell they lived through in this icy prison. The film is as much about the couple's relationship as it is about survival, and on the latter point, Suddenly Alone offers scenes of sometimes surprising violence, and shows just how terribly hostile nature can sometimes be.

Thomas Bidegain's feature film succeeds and impresses. Soudain Seuls is a film not to be missed.
