After directing the Last Man series, Jérémie Perrin returns with his first feature film, Mars Express, due for release in cinemas on November 22.
Set in the year 2200, this animated science-fiction film follows a stubborn private detective, Aline Ruby, dubbed by Léa Drucker, and her android partner, Carlos Rivera. One thing leads to another, and they uncover a vast machination involving all the robots on Mars, a totally colonized territory where machines are everywhere.
Recognize a certain Blade Runner? Ridley Scott 's film is largely inspired by it, but with a cyberpunk twist. What's more, the (sublime) animation allows for far more visual madness than most works of the genre, making Mars Express a film with a constantly surprising, but above all credible universe. Through its many seemingly innocuous details, the film brings to life the daily life of Noctis, the Martian capital, its habits, its popular and not-so-popular places, and the way it works. The Mars Express scenario isn't necessarily very original, but it's a fine tribute to film noir, mixed with a cyberpunk sauce. A real pleasure.
Jérémie Périn has childlike fun shaping this universe, and since he works in animation, he takes the liberty of handling the fictional camera with impressive movements, showing the full extent of his talent. A filmmaker to keep an eye on!
