The police duo Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde return, voiced once again by Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman. In this sequel, the two investigators must confront the arrival of a mysterious reptile who disrupts the balance of Zootopia.
After cracking one of the city’s most notorious criminal cases, Judy and Nick realize that their partnership may not be as rock-solid as they believed. Chief Bogo then forces them to undergo a therapy program designed for team members in crisis. Their teamwork will soon be put to the test when they go undercover in parts of Zootopia they've never explored before.
This latest mission takes them on the trail of a recently arrived venomous snake in the animal metropolis. The investigation plunges them into uncharted territories and introduces them to a new cast of characters. Blending elements of police procedural, comedy, and adventure, the film continues to explore the themes from the first installment—diversity, prejudice, and coexistence within a society made up of animals from all walks of life.
The film's soundtrack is composed by Michael Giacchino, who also scored the first installment. The album features the track « Zoo », performed by Shakira, reprising her role as Gazelle. The song was co-written by Shakira, Ed Sheeran, and Blake Slatkin.
The original voice cast includes Jason Bateman, Ginnifer Goodwin, Ke Huy Quan, Brenda Song, Idris Elba, Jenny Slate, and Shakira. In the French adaptation, Marie-Eugénie Maréchal and Alexis Victor reprise their respective roles as Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. They are joined by Baptiste Lecaplain, Mister V, Jean Reno, Fred Testot, Pascal Elbé, Claire Keim, Lubna Gourion, and Jean-Claude Donda, who makes a return as the voice of Flash.
Directors Jared Bush and Byron Howard continue here to expand the universe they launched with the first Zootopia in 2016, which took home the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. This sequel stands out for a notably ambitious production, with a host of new urban environments to explore.
Designed to appeal to a broad audience, the film is perfect for both families and fans of animated films with layered storytelling. Staying true to the spirit of the original, Zootopia 2 blends humor, adventure, and a detective narrative in a world where interspecies differences drive the story forward.
