Kika by Alexe Poukine, selected for Critics' Week 2025

Alexe Poukine's film Kika will be presented in selection for Critics' Week 2025. The film is in contention for the Caméra d'Or 2025.

A place for young talent! La Semaine de la Critique has just revealed its selection for the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, and as every year, it's giving pride of place to the new voices of world cinema.

Reserved for first and second films, this parallel section of the festival features 11 feature films this year: 7 in competition, 4 in special screenings. And festival-goers can't wait to discover them! Like Alexe Poukine's first film, Kika, starring Manon Clavel, Ethelle Gonzalez Lardued and Makita Samba.

La Semaine de la Critique 's biography of the director: "Alexe Poukine is a director, actress and screenwriter. Her documentaries Dormir, Dormir dans les pierres, Sans Frapper and Sauve qui peut have won numerous awards at prestigious festivals. In 2020, she directed Palma, in which she plays the main character. This medium-length film won the Grand Prix at the Brive Festival and the Jury Prize at the Clermont-Ferrand Festival. Kika is her first feature film."

Where and when can you see Kika in France?

Kika will be unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. The release date in French cinemas is not yet known.

Synopsis: When her partner dies, Kika is shocked to realize she's pregnant. Completely broke and heartbroken, she sets her priorities: 1- get out of the doldrums. 2- whether or not to keep the child.
