Marvel Animation launches a new animated series entitled Eyes of Wakanda, focusing on the Hatut Zaraze, an elite group of warriors from Wakanda tasked with recovering vibranium artifacts scattered around the world. Created by Todd Harris, this four-episode miniseries blends action, animation and adventure in a universe derived from the Black Panther franchise. The voice cast includes Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams, Patricia Belcher and Anika Noni Rose. Broadcast exclusively on Disney+, the series is part of the MCU's narrative continuity, brought to life by Proximity Media and Marvel Studios.
The first trailer showcases a stylized visual universe and battle sequences set in different historical contexts.
Eyes of Wakanda will be broadcast on Disney+ from August 1, 2025.
Synopsis: In this globe-trotting adventure, the Hatut Zaraz must carry out dangerous missions to recover vibranium artifacts from the hands of Wakanda's enemies.
With Eyes of Wakanda, Marvel continues to expand its universe, exploring tales of the past through the prism of animation. The series focuses on the Hatut Zaraze, an elite group less well known than the Dora Milaje but just as essential to the protection of Wakanda. The plot moves through different times and places to illustrate the global impact of vibranium, a central element of Black Panther's lore.
The animated format here allows for a range of visual styles and historical settings, with an art direction deliberately distinct from live-action productions. Episodes should feature a quasi-anthological structure, with each mission linked to a specific artifact and era, while maintaining a coherent overall plot.
The series is directed by Todd Harris, also executive producer, and draws on a team already involved in the Black Panther saga, including Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian via Proximity Media. Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito and Brad Winderbaum are also producing for Marvel Studios.
This positioning reinforces the idea that Eyes of Wakanda could fit into the extended canon of the MCU, offering a historical look at Wakandan culture while respecting the codes of genre animation.
This project could be of interest to fans of Black Panther (2018) and What If...? (2021), but also animation fans looking for an adventure story rooted in a rich mythology. Wakanda's blend of action, history and technology is also reminiscent of series such as Castlevania and Star Wars: Visions, which take a stylized approach to enriching their original universe.
The tone, more dramatic than comic, should suit teen and adult audiences interested in epic tales, cultural issues and questions of heritage. The voices chosen, including those of well-known figures such as Anika Noni Rose and Steve Toussaint, also reinforce this orientation towards mature storytelling.
Produced by Marvel Animation and Proximity Media, Eyes of Wakanda is a four-episode animated mini-series focusing on a group of Wakandan warriors sent around the world to recover vibranium artifacts. It features historical and fictional figures in a series of perilous missions linked to the defense of Wakanda. Directed by Todd Harris and featuring an international voice cast, it follows the thematic continuity of Black Panther, while offering a new visual approach.
Eyes of Wakanda will be available on Disney+ from August 1, 2025.
