Doug and Griff, childhood friends, have long shared a passion for Anaconda. As they near forty, they decide to shoot their own remake of the film, with scant resources and plenty of enthusiasm. Their project takes them to the Amazon, where the improvised, DIY nature of the shoot quickly collides with the realities on the ground.
The story catches up with their cinephile tribute soon: the team finds itself facing a colossal real anaconda. The comedy shifts into a survival film, treading the line between a cobbled-together remake, a jungle adventure and a creature attack.
Tom Gormican, director of A Massively Golden Talent, revisits here a meta logic already present in his previous film: characters who are aware of Hollywood codes find themselves trapped by the genre they thought they could master. This take on Anaconda steers away from the classic reboot in favor of self-mockery.
The first Anaconda, released in 1997 with Jennifer Lopez and Jon Voight, helped define animal-attack cinema before earning cult status. The 2025 version is aimed as much at nostalgic viewers of that B-movie era as at fans of adventure comedies headlined by a popular comic duo.
This Canal+ broadcast may appeal to viewers seeking a playful adventure comedy grounded in tongue-in-cheek humor, with nods to genre cinema and the Paul Rudd–Jack Black duo. It’s not really for those looking for a realistic survival movie or a serious-toned account of an animal attack.
The official trailer for Anaconda sets up the film's meta premise: two friends set out to remake their favorite movie, only to find themselves facing a very real threat.
