After A Toute Épreuve in August 2025 and The Killer in November 2025, it’s now Une Balle dans la Tête that’s making a triumphant return to cinemas in a stunning 4K restored version. Get ready to experience what is arguably the most personal and darkest film in John Woo’s filmography. The release date is set for February 4, 2026: check out the trailer for this new edition and the list of theaters where you can catch it!

By 2026, Metropolitan Films and its label HK Films will continue to manage the Golden Princess catalogue, a renowned Hong Kong production and distribution company known for its influential lineup of Hong Kong films. With over a hundred iconic titles, this collection remains a cornerstone of HK cinema history.

If you're a fan of Hong Kong cinema, you're undoubtedly familiar with the HK Video label, which famously released DVD collections of all the classics by John Woo, Tsui Hark, and many other legendary figures of HK filmmaking.
Since 2025 in France, many of these treasured classics, originally released on DVD, are now making a comeback on the big screen in restored, high-quality versions thanks to recent remastering efforts.

Following the re-releases of A Toute Épreuve, The Killer or the Chinese Ghost Stories Trilogy, it's One Shot, One Kill that kicks off the lineup in 2026, starting February 4th.

We'll let you check out the trailer of the film to see the quality of the restoration (remember, it’s been over 35 years since its release):

Just like The Killer or Hard Boiled, Bullet in the Head is also regarded as a masterpiece by John Woo, although it gained recognition only later on. While his distinctive style is instantly recognizable, it's worth noting that this film is arguably his most personal and darkest work:

  • Personal, because John Woo draws from his childhood memories; the film is set in the late 1960s during the Vietnam War.
  • Dark, as it explores themes of friendship (a recurring motif in Woo’s work), but here we see a bond shattered, with three friends tearing each other apart.

To bring this trio to life, John Woo assembled three iconic stars from Hong Kong cinema:

  • Tony Leung Chiu-wai, a renowned actor whose impressive career has earned him numerous awards—including Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival for In the Mood for Love. His filmography boasts classics like Infernal Affairs, 2046, The Grandmaster, and Shang-Chi.
  • Jacky Cheung, known for roles in As Tears Go By and Once Upon a Time in China.
  • Waise Lee, also recognized for his part in The Criminals.
