We did have a few chances at this year's French Open. Unfortunately, out of 28 players, not a single Frenchman emerged victorious from the 2nd round, leaving the rest of the tournament without a Frenchman - a record as black as that of 2021.

After the qualifying rounds of the Roland Garros tournament were over, we had 28 French players ready to go after the yellow ball, in a bid to make it further into the final table. But as the rounds progressed, France lost all its players, leaving little hope at the end of the second, when only Rinderknech tried to survive against his opponent. Eventually losing, he joined the other tricolores, for a record that looks more disastrous than in 2021.

Two years ago, no Frenchman made it past the second round in the same way, while last year, none managed to get out of the last stage before the Round of 16. Exactly 40 years after Yannick Noah's coronation as the last Frenchman to win the French Open, we're yet to see one of our own succeed him this year. This is the worst record since the beginning of the Open era in 1968, with the year 2021.

Caroline Garcia, Ugo Humbert, Gael Monfils, Lucas Pouille, none of them were able to cope with the opposition at home, even though the French were the most represented nation in the tournament this year. Let's try again next year!
