Bad news for French tennis in the 2nd round of Roland-Garros 2023. Gaël Monfils has forfeited the match, suffering a wrist injury after an impressive match against Sebastian Baez.

Like Rafael Nadal, Gaël Monfils is forced to forfeit the remainder of this year's French Open. However, the French tennis player impressed his fans in his match against Sebastian Baez on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. The Frenchman overcame a 4-0 deficit to the 42nd-ranked player in the fifth set, and went on to win the match in style, buoyed by the atmosphere of the night session. Unfortunately, however, he injured his wrist and his adventure came to an end.

While the French are in a poor position to appear beyond the 3rd round, the loss of Gaël Monfils doesn't help matters. He was due to take on world number 6 Holger Rune this Thursday, but suffered a partial ligament rupture in his wrist. At 36 years old, the former French number one player asked in a press conference about the number of Roland Garros he has left to play:"I don't show it too much, but there is more than disappointment, because how many Roland Garros do I have left?

As a reminder, the French tennis tournament is due to continue until June 11, buoyed by a new generation in top form.
