Baseball has recently made a comeback in the capital, thanks to the return of the Ranelagh Baseball Club, which offers Parisians the chance to see this sport, which is rather rare in France outside of television. In free matches, players compete against other opponents in the Paris Championship. This time, an American team is coming specially from the USA for a friendly match, on August 5, 2023, still at theHippodrome d'Auteuil, and still free of charge! Come and see the Texas Playboys play, as part of a major baseball celebration in the capital.
For this rare occasion, the club is giving away its pitch. Experienced players from various clubs in the Paris region will take on this member of the Sandlot Revolution, an American movement comprising 150 baseball clubs, whose aim is to make the sport accessible to all, in good spirits. Baseball may have been particularly popular in the capital in the last century, but that's no longer the case, and that's about to change! In the spring of 2025, an official US pro season match with the Los Angeles Dodgers is scheduled to take place in Paris!
This event will be a real-life test to gauge public enthusiasm, before the American league, Major League Baseball, comes to play in the capital, just like the NBA games. The Ranelagh Baseball Club team is keen to develop new infrastructures, and has submitted a project to the city for the construction of an eco-responsible pitch in Bagatelle.
