The Swedish Institute Embraces Summer: Concerts and Outdoor Cinema in Paris

The Swedish Institute presents "Summer Time"—a program of musical and cinematic events—like a summer breeze that shapes the space of the exhibitions while offering a new way to inhabit the venue. Outdoor concerts and cinema are free on the garden side, from June 21 to September 5.

Swedish music, outdoor cinema and the vibe of a Parisian garden: the Swedish Institute, in the Marais district of Paris, is switching to Summer Time from June 21 to September 5, 2026. This free-entry summer program offers garden-side gatherings, pairing the Midsommar traditional celebration, contemporary music concerts and screenings under the stars.

The idea: to experience a Franco-Swedish cultural venue in a different way, during the sunny season, in a setting open to the curious, to music lovers and to cinephiles.

The garden-side highlights of the summer program

The launch is set for June 21, 2026, pairing Midsommar with Fête de la musique. In the garden, the Swedish Institute invites attendees to take part in traditional dances and participatory singing led by Eskelina, followed by two concerts: Fågelle, then Sara Parkman.

The gates open at 5:00 p.m., ahead of the singing-and-dancing sessions at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., followed by the concerts at 7:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m.

Concerts, immersive listening and open-air Swedish cinema

On July 2, 2026, the duo Maria W Horn & Mats Erlandsson presents an immersive sound performance in the garden. Their collaboration centers on electronic music and electroacoustic works.

For this evening, the program promises a musical blend that features an amplified zither and electronic music.

On July 9, 2026, composer and sound artist Ellen Arkbro presents Nightsong, a new piece for a trio of viols, followed by solo organ works. Her work explores precise harmonies, chord progressions, and listening as an active experience, in an extended tempo that suits the ambiance of an outdoor summer evening.

At the start of the season, the Swedish Institute is back with the Les Traversées du Marais festival, presenting two outdoor film screenings.

On September 4, 2026, Kevlar Soul, by Maria Eriksson-Hecht, follows brothers Alex and Robin in a story about troubled youth in contemporary Sweden.

On September 5, 2026, Sous Hypnose, the debut feature by Ernst De Geer, follows André and Vera, a young entrepreneurial couple whose trajectory derails after a hypnotherapy session.

The screenings are scheduled in VOSTFR, with doors opening at 8:30 PM and the start around 9 PM; if it rains, the screening is canceled.

A Summer in the Swedish Institute’s Verdant Haven

Based in the 3rd arrondissement of Paris, the Swedish Institute is among the Marais's cultural venues where you can go from an exhibition to a coffee, then to an event in the courtyard or garden. For Midsummer Time, the garden becomes the throughline: an outdoor space where Swedish culture reveals itself through festivities, listening, and cinema, all without changing address.

For Midsommar and outdoor cinema, access is through 10 Rue Elzévir. For the concerts on July 2 and July 9, entry is—as usual—at 11 Rue Payenne.

The café FIKA offers Swedish drinks and specialties during the Midsommar evening. A solid summer option to keep in mind for a Marais night out, whether you’re with friends, family, or as a duo, depending on the plan you choose.
