Fête de la ville 2024: Angélique Kidjo in free concert in Montreuil

An exceptional concert awaits Montreuil residents on Saturday June 22, 2024, the day after the Fête de la Musique. As part of the new edition of the Fête de la ville, the Seine-Saint-Denis municipality has announced the arrival of the talented Angélique Kidjo for an exclusive, free concert.

The Franco-Beninese singer will be well accompanied at this exceptional musical event in the Parc Montreau. In fact, 200 Marmots from Seine-Saint-Denis, home of the Olympic Games, will be joining her on stage to perform several of her songs.

Behind this territorial, artistic, educational and linguistic project, entitled " Angélique Kidjo & la Cité des Marmots - Minots en tournée ", we find Villes des Musiques du Monde. Initiated in Seine-Saint-Denis in 2008, the festival's main aim is to bring together an artist (the griot or griotte) and hundreds of schoolchildren from working-class neighborhoods. The concept? For a period of 6 months, the designated artist joins the project and " puts his or her musical repertoire and commitment at the heart of a process of transmission and creation where cultures engage in dialogue ", as explained in a press release published on June 5.

After extensive rehearsals, the Minots from Marseille and the Marmots from Seine-Saint-Denis and Paris - a total of 1,500 schoolchildren from 20 different towns - will join Angélique Kidjo on stage for several not-to-be-missed concerts in June.

In addition to Marseille and Paris (at the Théâtre du Châtelet on June 23), an exceptional performance has been announced for Montreuil on June 22, featuring the Orchestre national d'Île-de-France. At this exclusive concert, 200 children will sing in English, Fon and Yoruba.
