Almost 30 years ago, Eve Ensler - aka "V" - wrote one of the most feminist plays of our time,"The Vagina Monologues". For the first time on stage, women were speaking out about female sexuality. Since its premiere on Broadway in 1996, this successful play has been adapted in many countries and performed all over the world.
Proof of its renown,"Les Monologues du vagin" has been translated into 46 languages and performed in over one hundred and thirty countries. In France, the very first performance, adapted into French by Dominique Deschamps, took place on June 1, 2000 at the Théâtre Fontaine with Fanny Cottençon, directed by Tilly. Several other versions were produced in subsequent years, each time touring several of the capital's most famous theaters.
Considered a landmark of contemporary feminism, the play"Les Monologues du vagin" returns to Paris in 2025. Two exceptional performances are scheduled at Studio Marigny on Friday February 14 and Saturday February 15, 2025.
For this revisited and modernized version, directed by Aurore Auteuil, the play features three new actresses. The first is the committed transgender actress Galia Salimo, also known as the former queen of Parisian cabarets. Alongside her are Deborah Lukumuena, winner of the 2017 César for Best Supporting Actress for"Divines", and Aurore Auteuil, who already had a role in this play in the 2000s.
Translated by Coralie Miller and Alexia Perimony, the play naturally touches on the themes that have made the work such a landmark, such as femininity, sexuality, inequality and resilience, all evoked with humor and sincerity.
