If you love history, art and Paris, we've got the perfect museum to satisfy all your passions. Discover the Musée de Cluny, the museum of the Middle Ages in Paris and a place steeped in history.
Head for Paris's Latin Quarter, and more specifically the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district, to visit the Musée du Moyen-Âge. Although not one of the capital's most famous cultural sites, this museum has everything it takes to become one of the capital's must-see artistic spots. Recently renovated and modernized, this site is adjacent to the Cluny terms, one of the few ancient monuments in the city of Paris.
The Musée de Cluny houses 23,000 objects and exhibits, including 1,600 works displayed in the 21 rooms of the permanent exhibition. These include major works from a collection representing the richness and diversity of the Middle Ages, spanning a period of 1,500 years. The museum's itinerary also includes ancient spaces such as the plaster room, the Gothic cellar and the Roman annex, not forgetting, of course, the Cluny baths.
The permanent collections are displayed in chronological order. Architectural remains, sculptures, paintings, historical objects, craft treasures, tapestries, jewelry, caskets... History is told through these exceptional pieces. The Musée de Cluny also wanted to showcase works from Notre-Dame Cathedral, to underline its unique link with this iconic Parisian landmark. Interactive digital panels also add modern didactic elements to complete the tour.
The Musée de Cluny is open daily from 9:30 am to 6:15 pm, except Mondays. Nights until 9pm are offered on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month. The museum is closed on January1, May1 and December 25. To visit the museum at your leisure, book your tickets in advance: full price is 12 euros, reduced price 10 euros.
The art site is accessible to visitors in wheelchairs, those with mobility difficulties, families with strollers, the elderly... Elevators, ramps and the tour route are all easily accessible, thanks in particular to the recent creation of a reception building on the same level.
In addition to its permanent tour, the museum regularly offers temporary exhibitions, guided and themed tours, dramatized tours, singing tours, tours adapted for young children... There are also workshops, lectures and live performances linked to the theme of the current exhibition. A bookshop-boutique awaits you outside the museum.
To get to the Musée de Cluny, take metro line 10 (Cluny-la Sorbonne or Odéon stops) or line 4 (Odéon or Saint-Michel Notre-Dame stops). By RER, take line C or line B to the Saint-Michel stop.
Parisians and tourists from all over France and beyond can admire the exceptional collections of this museum, unique in France, and home to the famous Lady and the Unicorn tapestry. Come and discover the " New Generation National Museum of the Middle Ages "!
