From April 18 to June 14, 22 authentic old kilims, little known abroad, from Tchiprovtsi, Kotel and Pirot (Bulgarian territory until 1878), will be presented in the French capital.
The exhibition " STORIES IN COLOUR. 350 YEARS OF BULGAR KILIM TRADITION " includes rare examples from different periods and regions, from a tradition that goes back more than three centuries.
Theexhibition is organized 124 years after the first and only presentation of Bulgarian kilims in France, when from April to November 1900, examples from Tchiprovtsi and Kotel were part of the Bulgarian pavilion at the Exposition Universelle in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century.
From 1900 to the present day, this art form has never been exhibited in France.
All the artefacts on display, as well as those published in the event catalog, are part of a rich private collection of over 900 authentic Bulgarian kilims from different regions of the country, some of which have never been shown to the public.
The Chiprovtsi kilim tradition has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014.The project includes the presentation of part of the exhibition at the organization's headquarters, as well as aе conference on the importance of preserving the kilim tradition today.
Come and attend the exhibition opening on April 18, from 6.30pm, at the Galerie de l'Institut culturel bulgare in Paris!
