It's one of the most eagerly awaited events every year:contemporary art lovers are gearing up for the return of the Paris+ fair by Art Basel! This second edition promises to be even busier, with a packed program of exhibitions, meetings and activities.
Of course, we won't be missing the big gathering of art galleries at the Grand Palais Éphémère. But we're not stopping there: an off-site program takes us to the four corners of the capital. Among the exhibitions on offer and the major sites to be visited this year, there's a new addition: the forecourt of the Institut de France, in the 6th arrondissement.
From October 17 to 23, 2023, this temple of science and the arts will feature an original installation on its forecourt, just across from the Pont des Arts.
The work is by American artist Sheila Hicks. Known for her work with textiles, and for her colorful universe, the artist is presenting a monumental installation from her Columns series. This work, which contrasts strikingly with the neoclassical style of the Institut, is utterly fascinating: depending on the light and where you look at it from, the colors change.
Try it out, and stroll around the column from the Pont des Arts, or even from the other side of the river: the work seems to evolve and change before your very eyes.
It's free, it's open access, it's new in Paris: any reason to see this installation again and again! And don't miss the other open-air exhibitions scheduled during this week of contemporary art.
