Calling all fans of Japanese culture! This winter, the Maison de la culture du Japon in Paris is offering two new exhibitions free of charge. From February 13 to March 9, 2024, follow in the footsteps of Fukushima, then from March 12 to 30, take a surprising plunge into the discovery of illustrator Mamoru Yokota's "Mushae" project.

Located in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, a stone's throw from the famous Eiffel Tower, the Maison de la culture du Japon delights us throughout the year with a series of temporary exhibitions designed to immerse us in the heart of the Land of the Rising Sun. In turn, we discover Japanese history and culture through these exhibitions, as well as through creative workshops, concerts and screenings.

While the installation " The Art of Japanese Carpenters " has been extended until February 10, 2024, the Maison de la culture du Japon has announced two new exhibitions to be discovered free of charge in the lobby of the cultural center.

First of all, from February 13 to March 9, 2024, " In the Footsteps of Fukushima " will be on display. In March 2011, Japan was struck by a tsunami and a terrible nuclear disaster. This exhibition of photographs by Cécile Asanuma-Brice takes us back in time, following in the footsteps of the places where people lived - from this terrifying area to Fukushima - before they disappeared forever. Thanks to the photos taken by Cécile Asanuma-Brice, a researcher at the CNRS and co-director of an international CNRS research program on post-Fukushima studies, we discover silent streets devoid of any human activity, following the evacuation of villages with tens of thousands of inhabitants. As for wildlife, it is gradually regaining ground.

Photos from the " In the Footsteps of Fukushima " exhibition can be seen in the hall (first floor) of the Maison de la culture du Japon in Paris from February 13 to March 9, 2024. Admission is free.

Another free installation on offer at the Maison de la culture du Japon this winter? The " Mushae " exhibition. Not to be missed this time from March 12 to 30, 2024, this exhibition invites us to discover the project of Mamoru Yokota, famous illustrator and animator of manga and video games. Yokota, who was also animation director for the Naruto anime, Death Note and One Piece films, has been organizing charity exhibitions on the theme of "Musha ", the samurai, since 2012.

After multiple editions and a break due to the health crisis, the event is coming to Paris, and more precisely to the Maison de la culture du Japon, from March 12 to 30, 2024. Offered in the form of a selection of works exhibited to relaunch the project, this installation showcases the work of several Japanese talents, illustrating the"Musha" theme in their own way.

To enhance the event, the Maison de la culture du Japon in Paris has announced that Mamoru Yokota will be on hand on March 16 for an exclusive meeting and live drawing.

To discover the " Mushae " exhibition in Paris, head to the Maison de la culture du Japon from March 12 to 30. The installation, which is free of charge, takes place in the building's lobby.
