Paris, the city of love! If there is a district in the capital known to be romantic, it is Montmartre, and in particular thanks to the famous Wall of I love you, the favorite place of the lovers! But do you know its history?

Considered the city of love, Paris has a particularly romantic and charming neighborhood, Montmartre, where couples like to go to drop off a lock, admire the scenery or stroll through the typical streets. Near the Abbesses metro station, there is the Wall of I Love You, a must for tourists and lovers on the go. Did you know that it is written "I love you" in 250 languages?

This wall, designed by Frédéric Baron, symbolizes a link, a place of reconciliation, in the heart of the Jehan Rictus square. Its creator wanted to make the principle of the wall turned towards peace, usually an allegory of borders and individualism. Thus, this wall pays tribute toLove in all its forms and especially, in all languages, to make it universal. And what better way to do this than to engrave it, like teenagers who write their initials in the bark of a tree?

Frédéric Baron then went in search of all the "I love you's" in the world, and recovered these pieces of love from neighbors or embassies, between 1992 and 2000. He then asked Claire Kito to assemble the writings to form the mixture that we know today, alongside Daniel Boulogne, on a surface of 40m2 and 612 tiles in enamelled lava. Among the languages represented are those of the 192 UN member states, but also Basque, Bambara, Catalan, Corsican, Kurdish, Navajo, Occitan, Yiddish and many others .
