Mounted on their horses, with their helmets and sabres, they are impressive... But the Republican Guards wouldn't look so proud without the craftsmen who create all their equipment. Discover these behind-the-scenes masters at the Journées européennes des métiers d'art ( or JEMA), on April 4 and 5, 2024.
The Vérines barracks will exceptionally open its doors to the public for these two days. We'll be taking advantage of a guided tour to discover the workshops of the Republican Guard's craftsmen. And there are many of them! These professionals, with their very special skills, are keeping alive centuries-old knowledge and traditions. This unusual event gives us the opportunity to learn more about this army corps, as well as about the evolution of techniques used by sword furbishers, costume makers, harness saddlers...
Here's the detailed program of visits offered during the Journées des métiers d'art in Paris. Reserve your place for the discovery tour of the various workshops, lasting around 2h30:
By the way, do you know what JEMA is? These very special days take place every year at the end of March. They are an opportunity to promote and publicize arts and crafts, professions that require " traditional, highly technical and often exceptional skills ", as defined by the French Ministry of Culture.
Fashion, architecture and construction, heritage, decoration, performing arts... 281 professions in France are considered to be "métiers d'art". Thanks to JEMA, the public can discover these professions, and perhaps develop new passions, through conferences, visits, workshops, demonstrations... An event not to be missed.
