What if you rediscover history after dark? From 17 to 19 April 2026, the Nuit des Monuments metamorphoses the region’s finest castles and abbeys in Île-de-France into theatres of shadow and light. A one-of-a-kind nocturnal immersion where guided tours and special animations reveal the secrets of our heritage in a delightfully mysterious and unusual atmosphere.
In the Val d'Oise, the Abbaye de Royaumont began life as a beacon of the Middle Ages after its founding in 1228 by Louis IX and his mother Blanche of Castile. Following the Revolution, it was turned into a textile factory, before reclaiming its religious purpose in 1869 and then its cultural vocation in 1905 thanks to Jules Goüin. His grandson, Henry Goüin, transformed it into a welcoming retreat for artists and intellectuals. Declared a monument historique in 1927, it was designated in 1964 as a Centre Culturel de Rencontre, and it remains a timeless place of beauty, rich in history and evolution.
Embark on an adventure at Royaumont Abbey, for ages 8 and up! Torches will be provided for the Codex game. If you haven’t booked a team, the abbey will form the teams for you. On Friday 17 and Saturday 18 April, pick one experience of your choice:
