Our grand tour of Paris's hidden green villages continues with a visit to the Mouzaïa neighborhood. Perched on the heights of Paris, above the Parc des Buttes Chaumont, the Mouzaïa neighborhoodis a marvel of luxury, calm, and pleasure.
The neighborhood's 250 houses were built in 1879 onformer gypsum quarries, which explains the sloping appearance ofthe small cobbled streets. In fact, the neighborhood was created to house the workers who worked in these quarries. At the time, a treaty was signed between the city of Paris and the landowners stipulating that the houses should have only a ground floor and one upper floor. This is why La Mouzaïa today has the charming appearance of a small country village.
Colorful brick villas and cottages line the pedestrian-only alleys. Here, there are no cars and no unnecessary noise. Everywhere you look, there are trees, flower gardens, street lamps that seem to come from another century, little birds singing in one corner, cats strolling peacefully in another... A true little paradise in the heart of Paris!
Have fun wandering through the maze of alleys and dead ends, where you're sure to come across a surprising house, a fragrant flower, or a resident who will be delighted to tell you the history of the neighborhood. In a word: relax!
