Love gardens, and more specifically Japanese gardens? Then you’re in luck, because we’ve got a freebie for you. On the occasion of Rendez-vous aux jardins, the Jardin de Favières, which normally opens by appointment only, opens its doors for this 2026 edition.
The Jardins Japonais de Favières, nestled in the Seine-et-Marne region of France, unveils a vast 7,000 m² cultural and ecological space. Discover this peaceful sanctuary, a reflection of Japanese art and tradition. These gardens, constantly evolving, offer nooks and crannies conducive to serenity and contemplation.
The park consists of five distinct Japanese gardens, each an ode to tranquility and strolling. These gardens, still in the process of being transformed, continue to amaze us.
Created by Sandrine Milic, a landscape gardener with a twenty-year passion for the art of Japanese gardens, these gardens are deeply rooted in Japanese tradition. They offer a diversified sensory experience that changes with the seasons, the blooms and the itineraries. From the spectacle of azaleas in spring to the flamboyant maples as winter approaches, the gardens reveal themselves through the different seasons, including rain, which accentuates the hue of the grey stones, as Sandrine suggests.

These gardens, richly planted with various maples, pines, phlox and other species, evolve harmoniously. More than just a place to relax, the Jardins Japonais de Favières is also a center for cultural exchange, with areas dedicated to exhibitions.
As part of Rendez-vous aux jardins, the Japanese Gardens of Favières offer a a viewing-focused discovery of the garden, aligned with the national theme “The five senses in the garden: sight.”
The path invites visitors to observe the landscape composition: how the spaces are organized, the role of stones, the place of water and plant life, and the play of perspectives and balance.
Unlike a French formal garden, where human hands are plainly on display, the Japanese garden seeks to fade into an apparent naturalness. Nothing is left to chance: each element contributes to a precise, meticulously considered arrangement.
The landscape designer Sandrine Milic, creator of the site, will be on the grounds to guide visitors and, along the route, share the ideas that help unveil its subtlety.
A progressive, accessible approach for all to discover the construction and evolution of the landscape.
