In Versailles, in the heart of the Cité Royale, a sumptuous new showcase, dubbed"Les Lumières", will open its doors in June 2024. A tribute to the brilliant minds of the Age of Enlightenment, the 5-star boutique hotel from the 2L Collection group is set to offer luxurious stays steeped in authenticity, just a stone's throw from its prestigious neighbor: the Château de Versailles.
But the history of this establishment begins long before 2024. It dates back to the 17th century, during the reign of Louis XIV. Originally, the Hôtel de Villacerf and the Hôtel de Gramont stood on this site, classified as historic monuments in 1930, and brought together today by architect Didier Benderli. Benderli, who is also behind the Pavillon de la Reine in Paris, is committed to preserving the authenticity of these historic buildings while transforming them into a sanctuary of contemporary luxury.
Every nook and cranny ofHôtel Les Lumières is a page from history brought to life, from the 1907 grand staircase, listed as a historic monument, to the period library, or the gilding, moldings and woodwork that recall the splendor of Versailles and its legendary Sun King. A true embodiment ofFrench art de vivre, the hotel boasts 31 rooms in a hybrid Grand Siècle-contemporain style, a spa and a Pierre Hermé tea room. The latter, located on the second floor in a six-metre-high space, will offer a panoramic view of the Place d'Armes and a sweet and savoury menu to match.
An ode to the past that will soon open its doors to travelers from all over the world, inviting them to immerse themselves in France's rich heritage.
