By naming their restaurant Maria Magdalena, Adrien and Anthony Maselli got protected by Jesus’ disciple Mary Magdalene. For three years, South-Pigalle’s (So-Pi) restaurant-bar never empties.
Think about booking because at 8:30 p.m., the restaurant is already full and won’t empty before 11 p.m. or even midnight: after work parties, informal dinners, dates, the all So-Pi comes for a drink. Back in 2014, the owners said: “here, no one drinks, everyone reaches the angels” thanks to cocktails with divine names.
The Maria Magdalena with rose-infused cocktail and pear syrup, the Miracle de Provence with rosé, grapefruit, violet syrup and sparkling water or the Jardin d’Eden a soft cocktail to be clear-headed once you’re in paradise, can be served with tapas to share. We strongly advise you the guacamole with sweet potatoes, a nice discovery for €7!
Three years after opening the place, the restaurant is slowly leaving its club reputation behind to favor a cozier atmosphere and gambles on the cuisine of the talented female chef from Belfast, Victoria Mac Garvey. In September 2017, Maria Magdalena treats itself by having a new menu.
The two brothers created a gourmet and delicious menu. You should definitely taste the sweet potato candied with chorizo (€7) and the intoxicating crispy Tonkatsu pork cutlet with spices and Japanese rice (€18).
Gourmet eaters can fulfill their meat need with sliced and well-seasoned beef, if you don’t fancy meat, try the feta and Thai basil spring rolls (€13), zucchini noodles, pesto and ail (€11) or the sweet potato waffle with avocado and organic egg if you crave for an avocado toast (€12). Everything is finely seasoned for a tasty meal.
And for the sweet toothed-people among us, the chef offers very well executed classic desserts: almond tiramisu, lemon meringue pie and other creations from Belfast including the surprising chocolate acai bowl that is creamy and smooth at the same time!
