Set a stone’s throw from the Eiffel Tower, Cheese is first and foremost a cheesemonger, as well as a wine cellar and a delicatessen. Impossible to tag, this is first and foremost “a place of indulging perdition”. Let’s introduce you to this very original store.

Coming from Burgundy, fond of gastronomy, Gilles Clayeux has thought and created this uncommon store: Cheese! Both a cheesemonger, wine cellar and delicatessen, everything her is good and every single product has a story to tell!

Covering about thirty square-meters, the taste for authenticity and rarity, and even uniqueness, is available in the most perfect harmony revolving around 3 major categories:

  • Ripened farmer’s cheeses

Depending on seasons, the range spans from 70 to 100 references, most of them being goat’s cheeses that Gilles Clayeux is absolutely enthusiastic about! With his wife Valérie, they regularly visit the ripener or the farm, always looking for “the” product that will make the difference! A few rare gems are available, some being exclusively sold by Cheese, complete the genuinely made in France picture.
Examples: Cheddar 2013 by James Montgomery with an incredible aromatic taste, Stichelton raw milk-based and less strong that its famous cousin Stilton, or the Spanish Curado Ecologico by Hacienda Zorita not far from Salamanca, ewe’s milk cheese ripened for 6 months in syrah vintage red wine.

Another feature of Cheese is all things-homemade: tasty yogurts, original cheese recipes such as Le Formidable (brillat-savarin “dressed” with infused raisins), “goat’s cheese special” marinades based on spices from Olivier Roellinger…

  • Wines

Wines are here to pair as well as possible and improve the cheese tasting session provided in store. Gilles Clayeux willingly selects a few wines (about fifteen winemakers, and 2, 3 or 4 references each) changing depending on his mood and meetings with winemakers. As a child from Burgundy, the region leads the selection with Mercurey Château de Chamirey en Pierrelet by the family Devillard, Beaune 1er Cru La Féguine and Volnay 1er Cru Les Santenots du domaine Jacques Prieur in Meursault or Rully 1er cru Les Cloux and 1er Cru La Pucelle by Paul and Marie Jacqueson.
Strong Côtes du Rhône wines
La Célestière (Chateauneuf-du-Pape), a few nice wines from Loire (domaine Vincent Delaporte in Chavignol, domaine Minchin in Menetou-Salon), or charming wines from Château Dalmeran, an exceptional vineyard set in the heart of Beaux-de-Provence are also part of this selection. Once a month, a workshop promotes a producer and their wines with pairings with this or that cheese.

  • Delicatessen

Cheese delicatessen range is part of the indulging logic dear to the master of the house. Burgundy is still there with seasonal fruit jams and craft gingerbreads by Delphine Alaguette, chocolates by master chocolate maker in La Clayette Bernard Dufoux who has an incredible talent for pairing flavors, or honeys from the Secrets d’Apiculteur collection. As for savory, while waiting for the upcoming chutney range to come, we have a wonderful range of Provençal and Italian olive oils such as the one coming straight from Piombino, a Tuscan village across Elba the producer especially bottles for Cheese.

The atmosphere of the place adds something beautiful to the good. The very flowered window can only catch the eyes. Once you are in, you find yourselves in a cozy place fitted with a club chair, a mini table, magazines and soft lights… You just want to have a seat and have a bit of cheese to eat with a nice glass of wine.
Wines are staged atypically with a set of colors, and cheeses hand-packaged to make sure they look great. And it all helps to make you feel in a special, quirky place!

A new address as good as beautiful to discover as soon as possible!
