40 years ago, one of the most striking movies of its generation was released. Awarded the Palme d’Or in 1979, Apocalypse Now, a film by Francis Ford Coppola, returns in 2019.
And for good reason, the unforgettable American movie is back on screen in a never-seen-before version, its final cut!
On the occasion, Paris Le Grand Rex offers a special screening on Thursday October 3, 2019. Meet at 8:30 p.m. to discover this new version lasting 3h03.
The movie features different versions, first censored, it's then presented in a version that betrays the director's version but managed to seduce the critics and making it win the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival 1979. It's only in 2001 with the Redux version that Francis Ford Coppola delivers his vision of the movie, adding 2 scenes that became cult and 49 minutes ot the movie, making it almost 3h20 long!
This new version is more balanced and enjoys a remarkable remasterization. Francis Ford Coppola removed a few minutes of the movie in comparison with the previous version. This version 2019 presents a 3-hour descent into hell and into the warrior-like madness.
For the record, Apocalypse Now stars Martin Sheen, Frederic Forrest and even Robert Duvall.
Cloistered in his hotel room in Saigon, young captain Williard, unshaven and drunk, has come out of his lethargy as he’s summoned by the American general staff. General Corman entrusts him with a mission that has to remain secret: getting rid of colonel Kurtz, a military man with rather expeditious methods…
Meet on October 3 at Le Grand Rex to discover Apocalypse Now in its final cut version. Let's discover together in this movie about which Francis Ford Coppola used to say "My film isn't about Vietnam. It is Vietnam".
Note that the movie will be screened in original version with French subtitles.
