After closing for three months, movie theaters are ultimately reopening and welcoming viewers from June 22 with new health requirements to uphold. Limited capacity, mandatory facemask, physical distancing… We give you all the details of this new protocol!

If you missed movie theaters, you can be happy again as they are reopening soon! From June 22, 2020, movie theaters are allowed to open again after closing for three months. A closure that has been deeply impacting the cultural world as several movies have been postponed or even cultural events cancelled because of the coronavirus epidemic.

As France is moving through containment exit phases, it is on his address on May 28, 2020 that Edouard Philippe announced the reopening of movie theaters. Good news for all movie fans! But since the virus is still around, the reopening is going with new health requirements.

For the public:

  • If facemasks are not mandatory in the rooms, they are highly recommended in the lobbies.
  • Online booking is recommended to avoid contacts and go by ticket offices.
  • If you have not been able to book online, contactless payment is encouraged.

Culture Minister Franck Riester reminded “you can seat together if you are from the same social group, that is to say, if you are friends and coming to movie theaters or theaters together. Yet, you shall leave a seat empty between you and the people next to you if you do not know them, and you can remove your masks once you are seated”.

For movie theaters:

  • The staff shall wear facemasks
  • Hand sanitizer is available for the public
  • Door handles, bathrooms, and movie theaters are regularly disinfected
  • Time between each session will be extended to renew the air in the room
  • A traffic direction will be set up to avoid walking by other people

Movie theaters will reopen at 50% of their capacities, but it does not prevent you from enjoying movie releases as soon as they open.
