Doctors call to make facemasks mandatory in closed spaces. They say “temptation to get back to normal is big and understandable” and “tomorrow’s second wave shall be prepared today then”.

In a column published this Saturday in Parisien - Aujourd’hui en France, caregivers call to make facemasks mandatory in closed spaces to avoid a second coronavirus wave and a new lockdown in France like in many countries.

Pr. Antoine Pelissolo (psychiatrist) and Dr. Jimmy Mohamen (GP) explains that “weak signals are being noticed and must sound the alarm on a possible massive resurgence of infections”. We shall act now in order to avoid a new “massive and deadly” wave.

They solemnly declare: “We, caregivers, will be alongside you to take care of you as we did throughout the first wave, but we no longer want to count dead like we had to”.

Supported by many of their peers who signed, the doctors admit “temptation to get back to normal, to forget about the virus, and enjoy summer is big and understandable” but warn: “as for the virus, it does not forget us”.

They re-explain barrier gestures are here to protect us and protect the others, and to facemasks “mandatory in all closed public spaces”, they add physical distancing and hand washing.

According to the doctors, we shall consider this measure as an altruistic solidarity action: “if you do not do it for yourselves, do it for your parents who are older, your brother or sister with high blood pressure, or vulnerable people for whom the virus could be deadly”.

Yesterday on Friday July 10, Prime Minister Jean Castex called French to “wear a mask” to avoid a likely second wave. Moreover, the WHO has just warned the virus could be airborne.
