European Heritage Days 2021 at the Mobilier National - Manufacture des Gobelins

For European Heritage Days, the Manufacture des Gobelins offers an exclusive tour to the heart of the exceptional know-how on Saturday September 18 and Sunday 19, 2021.

Known across the world for its exceptional tapestries, the Manufacture des Gobelins was created in the 15th century under Colbert and has kept on making the French crafts heritage live since then. For the 38th edition of European Heritage Days, discover this exceptional place thanks to a tour taking you to the heart of the “exceptional know-how, the vitality of the art creation and the contemporary design” on Saturday September 18 and Sunday 19, 2021.

The Manufacture opens and invites visitors to discover the “treasures of the institution in its warehouses where is stocked one of the richest collections of furniture in the world”. On the menu too, the opening of the restoration and creation studios “including the manufacture des Gobelins, Beauvais and Savonnerie, the heart of the creation for 400 years”. And for this exceptional edition, the Mobilier National stands up and displays pieces from their collections soon to undergo a never-before-seen renovation campaign.

Visitors can duscover the different spaces of the Manufacture des Gobelins through two tours:

  • First tour - 42 avenue des Gobelins
    Enjoy the exceptional "Palais disparus de Napoléon" exhibition about the layout of Napoleon's now gone palaces (Tuileries, Saint-Cloud, Meudon), the Manufacture des Gobelins, the actviities and areas of the Campus métiers d’art et design-Manufactures des Gobelin, and in the chapel, the latest designs by Miguel Chevalier and A+A Cooren.
    Then, head to 1bis rue Berbier du Mets in the carpet (Savonnerie) and tapestry (Beauvais) manufactures and discover the studio where the colors of the fabrics are created, and the professional training of the Ecole des arts textiles du Mobilier national.

  • Then, visit the building designed by Auguste Perret (1 rue Berbier du Mets), exceptionally opening on EHD, housing collections of the Mobilier National, the renovation studios and the design creation studios. All along your tour, discover for the first time the shroud from when Napoleon I's ashes returned in 1840, displayed as part of the emperor's death's bicentenary, the furniture and lamps from 1930 to 1950 renovated thanks to the relaunch plan, as well as the know-how of the renovation studios.
