Every year, the Elysée Palace opens its doors for European Heritage Days. For a day, over 20,000 people come and visit this high place of power and the prestigious salons of the Hotel d’Evreux. According to our sources, the institution is said to be part of the event in 2020, but has not confirmed so to the Ministry of Culture!

The Hotel d'Evreux, also known as the Elysée Palace is one of the most coveted places on European Heritage Days.

Already considered as “the most beautiful mansion in the surroundings of Paris” in the 18th century. The Hotel d’Evreux has been successively the property of the Comte d’Evreux, Louis XV and Napoleon before being once and for all designated as the Residence of the French President based on a Decree in 1848.

Moreover, the self-guided tour of the building allows you to discover the Hotel d’Evreux and its 1889 layout (nothing has really been changed since then, except that electricity and running water has been installed): between the Salon Murat – that houses the Council of Ministers each Wednesday – and the Reception Hall – set up to house official dinners for the 1889 world’s fair – you will be taken to the heart of the power.

The visit continues within the power’s own intimacy with the French President’s office located within the Salon Doré (gilded salon) decorated by Jean-Louis Godon in 1861 for the Empress Eugénie. Furthermore, the courtyard and the gardens are also open.

To give you an overview of the visit, the French National Audiovisual Institute (INA) presents the tour in a video:
